Anglesey | Tattenhall

A unique course of Arts activities about Earth & Space, allowing your students to improve their understanding and knowledge.

Our Earth & Space adventure weekend is a creative way for your students to investigate the effects that the moon and the sun have on the Earth. You can choose stay in the Tattenhall Centre, Cheshire or the Conway Centre, Anglesey, this course can include a visit to either Jordrell Bank or Techni Quest Science discovery centre & their Space Zone.  The combination of learning outside the classroom & outdoor activities gives your students life-changing experiences and memories all whilst learning fascinating facts about the universe.

Our aim is to foster a sense of achievement where as well as learning about Earth & Space we inspire individuals, empower minds, and define futures through The Arts and develop young people to achieve their potential, introducing them to a potential lifelong interest in Art, Drama and Music.

Desired Outcomes
  • Combine arts and outdoor activities for students to better under the Sun, Moon & Solar System
  • Independence and self-confidence as they try new activities and get to know each other and their teachers in a different light .
  • Learn new hobbies and partake in activities such as; tidal investigations, learning to canoe or kayak and building & designing a raft
Planning your visit

Sample 4-Night Visit

Day 1 
Morning Afternoon Evening
Travel to centre – En-route visit Jodrell Bank or Techni Quest Science discovery Centre which will include seeing their Space-themed zone  Use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.

Make and use sextant / explore parallax
Self-led or Evening Activity
Day 2 
Morning Afternoon Evening
Carry out a tidal investigation Mariner’s Diary entry, using the Conway Centre/Cadets history as inspiration or follow the Tattenhall Trail before creating individual candle holders and writing postcards back to school or home.  Canoe or Kayak Session with lesson on how the sun and moon impact tides. Star Lab, a night walk, make a mini planetarium or campfire with marshmallows whilst stargazing
Day 3 
Morning Afternoon Evening
Build and design a raft

Floating and sinking activity
Create a photographic story of space exploration, focussing on the
emotions and responses to each stage of the journey, inspired by their
topic knowledge and the mood of 2001 Space Odyssey

Use the lyrics of David Bowie's Major Tom to create a film script / radio play
Crabbing session investigating the impact of the sun and moon on coastal wildlife OR Nightwatch – exploring the nocturnal creatures’ habits and habitats onsite.      
Day 4
Morning Afternoon Evening
Describe the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth

Drama activity 
Make a planetarium - Create a scale model of the solar system to understand the orbit of the planets around the sun Self-led or additional evening activity.
