Year 8 and 9 Art Options Weekend

Year 9 Inspire Art

Year 8 & 9 - Inspire Art residential

Anglesey

This course has been created for students who love the Visual Arts and are considering it as an option for GCSE.

Running alongside our highly successful GCSE Art weekends, this programme has been designed as an introduction to KS4 Art. With painting, mixed media and print sessions, students will have the opportunity to do a series of mini workshops using a variety of media and techniques to give them a taste of what GCSE will be like.

Each activity will cover an aspect of the National Curriculum and is designed to encourage students to build on their skills, knowledge and understanding. Alongside the art workshops students will get the opportunity to do an outdoor activity and enjoy the glorious natural surroundings.

Desired Outcomes
  • To use a range of techniques, increase proficiency in handling different materials
  • Inspire students to choose GCSE Art and Design
  • Learn and use creative skills to realise their ambitions
  • The opportunity to meet and work with like-minded young artists

Session 4, Dérive

To do a dérive, walk without a destination, following instead what catches your interest, take in the ‘psychogeography’ – the way different spaces or environments make you feel and behave.

We want our young people to interact with their space, people, buildings and changes in atmospheres, to talk or to be silent; walking in the grounds around our Centre, to the shores or through the woods, over grass or pathways, to observe the water and the mountains, to feel the air, to smell the salt and the pine. Students will be encouraged to take 5 minute sketches, to find objects of interest – a pebble, a leaf, sea glass – and use these in their sessions to promote discussion and inspire their responses.
