Our GCSE Art Weekend gives students a focused opportunity to extend their coursework, try new creative processes and work with specialist artist-tutors in a supportive residential setting. The weekend is designed to help students build confidence, develop practical skills and produce ambitious artwork that can support their GCSE Art and Design portfolio.
3D techniques can be used to transform simple materials into imaginative, personal and visually engaging artwork.
Work with structure, balance, shape and surface decoration.
Smaller artefact-style pieces show how students can build detail through layering.
"Creative confidence grows when students have time to explore, make mistakes, solve problems and refine their ideas. This weekend gives students the chance to work in a concentrated way, respond to specialist feedback and create artwork that feels more ambitious and personal. The experience can also help students return to school with fresh ideas, stronger practical evidence and increased motivation for their GCSE coursework. It is a great course for students who are passionate about Art".
Students will usually focus on one workshop pathway for the weekend, allowing them to develop their ideas in depth, with dedicated breaks to switch off and enjoy activities in the great outdoors. They will be encouraged to observe, design, test materials, review their progress and refine their final piece. Artist-tutors will guide students through demonstrations, individual feedback and practical support so that each student can respond in a personal way.

Contextual links are briefly introduced and project specific outline for the weekend is explained. 8.30/9pm - Students to assigned social rooms or bedrooms (to be decided by school staff) 10.30pm - Bed time |

8.30am - Breakfast 9.15am-12.30pm - Art session 1 Begin work on preparatory sheet with focus on drawing/observational. 10.45am Breaktime decided by artist dependent on stage of work. |
1.30pm-6pm - Art session 2 Groups will begin final piece with reference to preparatory work and contextual/artist links. Artist led demonstrations and tutorials throughout session. 1 Outdoor Activity Assigned to each group at different times. |
6pm - evening meal. 7-9.30pm - evening session. Students will complete final piece and practical part of preparatory work. 9.30pm - Students to assigned social rooms or bedrooms (to be decided by school staff) |

8.30am - breakfast. Students to bring luggage from bedrooms and put in designated social rooms. 9.15am - Art session begins. Students will complete any outstanding art and work on the written element of their project with Guidance from artist 11.30am - groups will set up individual exhibition space for their project work. |
12pm - all staff and students will take part in an exhibition tour, giving an opportunity to celebrate each other’s work and view different interpretations of the project brief. 12.30-1.15pm - lunchtime 1.15pm - collect work and depart. |
