Event: Arts Education in a Multi-Cultural Society: AEMS

Our AEMS course is an intensive three-day visual and performing arts courses aimed at years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Led by nationally recognised multi-cultural artists, pupils will come together in activities to celebrate and raise awareness of cultural diversity. From Indian dancing, Beatboxing and Celtic Art - young people will create lasting memories and beautiful pieces of work in the creative and performing arts.

Desired Outcomes

To introduce a wide range of performing and visual arts techniques which differ from those undertaken at school.
To allow students to work imaginatively and creatively in collaborative contexts, generating, developing and communicating ideas.
To develop confidence.
To develop an awareness of Global Citizenship.
To share the experience with other pupils once back at school.
To challenge stereotypical views of different cultures.

Schedule

Day 1

Travel to Centre You may wish to visit one of our partner organisation en route – please ask our Booking Team about this! From 12.00pm Arrival at Centre and sort out dormitories	1.00pm Lunch 2.00pm Meet the Team: Introduction to the course tutors and the theme for your AEMS residential. 2.45pm – 4.45pm Session 1 may include: Indian Dance Celtic Art African Drumming Brazilian Capoeira Beatboxing Storytelling	5.00pm Evening Meal 6.30pm – 8.30pm Session 2 may include: Indian Dance Celtic Art African Drumming Brazilian Capoeira Beatboxing Storytelling 8.30pm Students to own shared social area 9.00pm Students to own rooms 9.30pm Lights out and students checked by own teachers

Day 2

8.30am Breakfast 9.30am Session 3 may include: Indian Dance Celtic Art African Drumming Brazilian Capoeira Beatboxing Storytelling 11.00am - 11.30am Break	12.30pm Lunch and shop / free time 1.30pm – 4.30pm Session 4 may include: Indian Dance Celtic Art African Drumming Brazilian Capoeira Beatboxing Storytelling	5.00pm Evening Meal 6.15pm – 8.45pm Main Hall Ceilidh OR Session, depending on current guidance 8.45pm Departure Instructions 9.00pm Students to own rooms 9.30pm Lights out and students checked by own teachers

Day 3

8.30am Breakfast (Bags to Departure Point) 1.30pm – 4.30pm Session 4 may include: Indian Dance Celtic Art African Drumming Brazilian Capoeira Beatboxing Storytelling 11.15am All groups gather in Main Hall/Chapel to share and celebrate AEMS	12.00pm Lunch 1.15pm Groups Depart	Follow Up / Extension Schools may wish to share their art/performance within their school community: you will be given a link to our carefully selected themed song which you can access as required. Schools who complete their Arts Award Discover will be sent their certificates.
