Arts Education in a Multi-Cultural Society: AEMS

Anglesey

Event: Arts Education in a Multi-Cultural Society: AEMS

Anglesey

Our A.E.M.S. course is an intensive three-day visual and performing arts courses aimed at years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and enables multi-cultural artists, teachers and pupils to come together in activities to celebrate and raise awareness of cultural diversity, creating lasting memories and beautiful pieces of work in the creative and performing arts. Schools are invited to explore A.E.M.S. collaboratively, in mixed groups (subject to guidance and current restrictions, schools may remain in their own teaching groups), through practical workshops – in recent years the courses have involved over 400 pupils and 16 schools.

Desired Outcomes
  • To introduce a wide range of performing and visual arts techniques which differ from those undertaken at school.
  • To encourage students to mix safely with children and teachers from other schools.
  • To allow students to work imaginatively and creatively in collaborative contexts, generating, developing and communicating ideas.
  • To develop confidence.
  • To develop an awareness of Global Citizenship.
  • To share the experience with other pupils once back at school.
  • To challenge stereotypical views of different cultures.
  • To give teachers the opportunity to gain INSET while watching others engage their pupils.
