Celebrating Jon Gamon and SEAS at Conway Centres
At Conway Centres, our mission is clear: no one gets left behind. Nestled on the Menai Strait, our Anglesey centre delivers life-changing outdoor experiences. But it was Jon Gamon—Senior Outdoor Tutor and SEAS Technical Director—whose passion transformed how we include disabled people in what we do.
Way back in 2017, while working at our centre, Jon dreamt big. He saw the chance to bring adaptive watersports to disabled people, their families, and carers. A group post on social media turned into something extraordinary—and by April 2025, SEAS Sailability was firmly part of the Conway Centres story.
With Jon and co-founder Richard Horovitz, SEAS offers a range of adaptive watersports—from sailing to paddleboarding to powerboating—using accessible equipment like specialised seating, giant paddleboards, and wheelchair-accessible Wheelyboats.
As Jon explains:
“It’s so rewarding to see the excitement and sense of achievement… You become part of a community and I like seeing the impact our activities have on the wellbeing and relationships of our participants and their carers.”
This bold vision quickly gained traction.
In 2019, SEAS was awarded the RYA “#MoreThanSailing” Award, recognising innovative work that brought inactive disabled people onto the water—and Jon’s dedication was centre-stage.
Over the summer of 2018 alone, around 390 people participated in SEAS sessions at Conway—a testament to the hunger for accessible adventure.
Most recently, in July 2025, the RYA Cymru Wales Impact Awards celebrated Jon Gamon and Richard Horovitz for going “above and beyond” to inspire disabled people and their families afloat.
What makes SEAS at Conway Centres so successful isn’t just equipment—it’s community. Jon mobilised volunteers, trained family members and carers, and forged vital partnerships: SEAS, RYA Cymru, Outdoor Partnership North Wales, Wheelyboat Trust, and others. Working alongside our own team, they made inclusive watersports affordable and sustainable.
We’re proud to celebrate Jon Gamon, Richard Horovitz, and the SEAS team. Their passion fuels our centre and reflects our values: adventure, support, transformation. At Conway Centres, we’re not just teaching—we’re changing lives.
If you’re inspired, consider joining SEAS, volunteering, or supporting us to grow. Get in touch to discover more or plan an inclusive adventure at Conway.
